Mythbusters once did an episode saying cans of cola could take temperatures of up to 150 degrees and not explode. Either it was the hottest day ever on record in Kansas or I just have special myth-busting talents. And this leads to my not-so-proud car confession …
It was a blistering hot summer day. I was driving my mom’s car to some high school event. I brought a Dr Pepper can with me but forgot it in the car. No harm done, it seemed — until I returned to the car after a few hours.
The harmless pop had exploded everywhere, leaving my Mom’s car ceiling stained with blotches of dark soda. All over her sun visors. Everywhere. But instead of cleaning the pop explosion residue (Really, how does one clean pop from a car ceiling?), I just hoped Mom wouldn’t look up.
She did.
I can’t remember how it got cleaned up, but I am fairly certain there were still little dark dots on the ceiling when it got traded away.
Moral of the story? Unopened cans of pop and Kansas heat don’t mix. No matter what Mythbusters says.
Be sure to check back tomorrow to see what Lauren has to confess. Coming from a car family, it’s got to be good.
