Car politics

The pre-election hubbub is on full volume right now, but here’s one thing missing from the conversation: Do you care what your candidate drives?

One of the most fun factoids about new vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan is that he used to drive the Wienermobile. Perhaps not the best vehicle to show off his presidential characteristics, but it’s great for some wiener jokes!

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was actually modeled after a vehicle in 1936 and has evolved over the years. In 1995, the mobile grew to 27 feet long and 11 feet high and now includes voice activated GPS, a wireless microphone and horn that plays the company’s jingle in 21 different styles. Today there are eight mobiles in existence including two Vienna-sausage models.

Ryan has since traded in his hotdogger for a truck. His counterpart, Mitt Romney, has famously driven many cars including his wife’s Cadillac Escalade. He’s also been known to drive a Ford Mustang Convertible, Chevrolet Silverado and a Rambler American. (Source) The man definitely loves his cars.

President Barack Obama probably isn’t doing much, if any, driving himself these days. But back in his common man days, he drove a Chrysler 300 and then a Ford Escape Hybrid. (Source)

It’s going to be hard to cast my vote against a hybrid and for a giant hot dog — if I were voting solely on car choice, of course.
