It can wait.

It seems so harmless — just one text saying “on my way.”

But did you know that text you send while driving increases your chance of a crash 23 times? 23 times!

And though the American Automobile Association reports that 40% of American teenagers have been in a car when the driver was using a cell phone in a way that put the passengers in danger, this isn’t just a teen problem. It’s everyone’s problem. Consider the child passengers, family members, and all the others who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That’s why both Kansas and Missouri joined the nationwide “It Can Wait” campaign sponsored by AT&T. On September 19, people submitted their stories of why they were making the pledge to never text and drive. The pledges come from teens, parents setting a good example, ER doctors who see the consequences, and drivers who know their life is more important than a text message.

Texting while driving is illegal in Kansas. In Missouri, texting is only banned for drivers under 21.

There is still time to make your pledge. Need more of a reason? Check out the video below and find out from the people who really know why your pledge matters.
