Here we are in 2015! Can you believe it? When I was younger 2015 sounded like such a far-off year. But here we are living it. And with like every new year, people are talking about goal setting.
You may wonder how this blog has any place talking about goal setting, but hear me out!
Your car takes you places you want to go every single day. It’s likely one of the most valuable possessions you own. Why wouldn’t you want to do some goal setting when it comes to your car? A few simple goals could keep your car running for years longer. And even if you end up selling it down the road, the value will be much higher if it’s well taken care of.
So, now I’m sure you see why this is SUCH a brilliant idea! 😉 But if you’re still stumped on where to start with car-related goals, here are a few ideas to get you started. These ideas can be for various types of car owners, from the obsessive car lover to cautious parent to the less-than-careful teen!
1. Get your oil changed every 3,000 miles. Changing your oil in a timely manner is one of the most vital parts of extending the life of your car. Without oil working as a lubricant in your engine, parts will wear down and stop working properly. So don’t skimp on this! Ask the people who change your oil to give you a sticker or mail reminder to keep you on track.
2. Wash your car at least once a month and/or as needed. If you live in a climate where it snows, salty ice melt can do major damage on your paint job, so winter may be a time when you’ll need to wash your car even more frequently. And if you live in a place with lots of bugs and debris that ends up on your car body, you’ll also want to get frequent car washes. Whether you do it yourself, head to a pricey car wash or just use the one at the gas station, give your car some TLC! It’s not just for looks!
3. Invest in a car trash can to coral junk. I featured a car trash can on my holiday gift guide, so you’ve heard this from me before, but a car trash can is SO nice to have around and makes your car seem so much cleaner. The trash is still there, but when it’s neatly packed away in a trash can, you seem much more on top of things. 🙂
4. Resolve to stop eating fast food and other messy meals in the car. Fast food is a major culprit in staining seats, smelling up the car and generally running down the newness of your vehicle, so try to keep fast food out of the car! Eating while driving is definitely not the safest move, and hey, this goal is actually good for your health and budget, too!
5. Read your car manual (or at least browse it!) to get a refresher on your car’s special care instructions. You may have bought your car last week or you may have bought it ten years ago — but have you ever actually sat down and read through your car manual? Sure, it’s not exactly a thrilling novel, but that manual contains important information about keeping your car running optimally. You may just learn something new!
6. Resolve to never talk on the phone or text while driving. Hopefully this one has been drilled into your head by now, but if you’re still doing it, just stop already! It can wait.
6. Invest in a 72-hour kit. Speaking of safety, investing in a 72-hour kit or a first aid kit is a really smart idea! These kits include water, food, blankets and other essentials that could save your life if you get stuck in a winter storm, run out of gas, or are in any situation where you end up miles from help.
