If there’s one piece of advice I think we’d all love to hear, it’s how to get out of a speeding ticket! Right?! I’ve been pulled over a time or two and always cling to the hope that I can talk my way out of it, but it’s not usually very successful.
So when I saw this article about the inside-scoop on getting out of a ticket (from police officers themselves!) I knew I had to share it with you.
The big take-away for me here is that cops would rather have you acknowledge the situation and not try to flirt or make excuses. One cop even said he recommends waving at the cop as you go speeding by! I always try to be as conspicuous as possible, so I certainly never would’ve thought of that. But this cop says it makes it look like you either know the cop or acknowledge your fault and are slowing down. I might have to try that next time!
Other tips from the article include:
- Have a good attitude
- Know the location of your registration and bring it out quickly
- Make the cop feel safe and unthreatened
- Make small talk (to humanize yourself)
- Don’t argue that you weren’t actually speeding
Now that I’ve read that article, I’m very curious to know: have any of you ever talked your way out of a ticket? Do you agree with the advice above? Please share your stories in the comments, I’d love to hear!
