Just mentioning the three letters “DMV” usually induces groans all around the room. But the Department of Motor Vehicles is a necessary part of life if you want to be a registered driver. It can actually be a very helpful place in ways you may not have ever thought about, too!
So if you’re already making a trip to the DMV, consider doing these other things while you’re in the neighborhood. It’ll save you time and precious gas money. And in even better news, many of these things can now be done online, so you don’t have to make the trip — outside of a trip to your kitchen to get a snack while you happily take care of business for the comfort of home!
Here are a few things you may have never known you could take care of at the DMV:
1. Change your address. When it comes time to move, you probably dread the mess of changing your address on all your various bills, accounts, subscriptions and so on. But for a small fee, you can take care of all that by filling out a change of address form at the DMV. Once the form is filled out, all of your mail will be forwarded to your new address. Voila! Major headache averted.

6. Become an organ donor. I think becoming an organ donor is such an amazing opportunity to serve someone else, even after you’re gone! The DMV allows you to check a simple box on your driver’s license application stating that you want to be an organ donor, but you can also go in and do it separately if you didn’t get the chance previously.
7. Donate your car. Drive a total beater that you’re not quite sure what to do with? Well, you don’t have to go through all the hassle of trying to fix it up and sell it.
