If you have ever tried to take a road trip with five people in a compact car you understand how important every inch of space is. What may seem like a lot of space quickly diminishes when you pack the vehicle full of people and all of their luggage. How you pack your vehicle could be the difference between smooth sailing and disaster. Here are five great tips for packing your car for a road trip.
1. Heavy bags you don’t need access to, need to go in first, obviously. Try to keep heavy items as far forward and close to the floor as possible. This will help your drive and keep things organized.
2. If you’re stopping at a hotel, it’s a good idea to pack an overnight bag with everyone’s clothes and essential items that you can easily grab, without having to unload half of the car.
3. Make sure to secure loose items. Small bags and items flying around can be dangerous in the event of a crash or even having to slam on the brakes.
4. Keep your essentials with you. Things like a first aid kit, phone chargers, water and a GPS should all be kept handy. Also consider adding wipes for quick cleanup, especially if traveling with children.
5. Make sure you can see out your rear window. It’s very tempting when packing your vehicle, to stuff it as full as possible, maybe even necessary, but it isn’t a good idea. You don’t want to back into anything or anyone because your cargo is obscuring your view.
