While scouring the Internet for anything and everything female automotive, I stumbled upon Patrice Banks, the Founder and CEO of Girls Auto Club. I was so inspired by her story, I decided to give her a shout-out and a healthy round of Internet applause.
One of the most inspiring things about Patrice’s story is that she started her journey not knowing anything about cars. She was a self-proclaimed auto airhead who focused more on her nails than her car. I think most of us can relate to this. Pay for a $15 oil change or a $15 manicure? With that also comes a feeling of helplessness that many women have experienced. In an industry where women are often made to feel inadequate or like they are taken advantage of, Patrice wanted to give women, like herself, confidence when it came to their vehicles.
So, Patrice left her comfortable engineering job of 12 years and started the Girls Auto Clinic: a group focused on helping and educating women on everything automotive. Through the Girls Auto Clinic, Patrice hosts workshops and events that teach women things like how to change a tire or how to change your oil. She has also written books and guides about basic car maintenance catered to women.
Let’s just take a minute and thank Patrice Banks for taking the initiative to make a difference in this male dominated industry and reaching out to women everywhere!
