When does your timing belt need to be replaced?

With the majority of cars, they can continue functioning for much longer if you just make some simple routine replacements. One of these replacements is the car’s timing belt. A timing belt replacement is one of those things that mechanics can try to squeeze into the cost of your other repairs. That’s why it is very important to know the status of your timing belt, and when it needs to be replaced.

It is recommendation that you replace the timing belt on your vehicle anywhere from 60,000 to 106,000 miles, depending on the type of car you drive and the overall health of the car. However, as long as you know how to check it, you will be able to determine when it needs to be replaced.

The best way to evaluate your timing belt is to check for cracks and stretchy. Over time the timing belt will wear out and possible stretch. If you find cracks, it’s best to get it replaced right away to avoid it breaking altogether and causing more damage to the engine.
