Prepping your car for winter

Winter

If you live in a particularly snowy place, prepping your car for winter is as important as prepping yourself. There are a few basic steps you can take to make your winter driving experience much calmer and safer.

Get yourself a good set of winter tires. It can be a little bit of an expense but can make a huge difference in your driving. Winter tires are built for wet and inclement weather conditions with a different type of rubber compound that keeps form  in the cold.

Test your car’s battery. Cold weather can make a significant difference in the life of your battery. To learn how to check your battery, check out this video. You will regret skipping this simple step if your car battery goes out and you end up stranded on the side of the road.

Keep extra floor mats and a shovel in your car just in case you get stuck. You can use the floor mats when the car has no traction and a shovel always comes in handy when you’re stuck in a snow bank!

Keep an emergency kit in your car in case you do get stuck and have to spend a significant amount of time in your car. Fill it with extra warm clothes and water.

Think about signing up for a temporary roadside assistance program. It’s always better to be over-prepared than to be stranded! It will give you peace of mind and possibly save you some trouble!
