Does low mileage matter when buying a used car?

mileage

When you are about to start looking for a new car, one of the first questions that comes to mind is how many miles you want the car to have, or not have. The mileage on the car has one of the biggest effects on pricing, along with how old it is and how many accidents it has been in. How important is the mileage on the car, really?

How many miles a car has crossed can tell you a lot about the condition of the car, and help influence your decision. For example, if you are looking at a ten-year-old car that only has 40,000 miles on it, it probably means that the vehicle has sat for long periods of time without moving. With a lot of vehicles, there are parts in the engine that need regular movement to keep them in good shape. There is also a good chance that if the car has not been being driven, it has not had routine maintenance done. So, this car may not be as good of a choice as a ten-year-old vehicle that has 100,000 miles on it.

Another thing to keep in mind is the type of mileage on the vehicle. 100,000 miles of city driving takes a much different toll on a vehicle than 100,00 miles of highway driving. City driving is harder on the vehicle and it may need more repairs in the near future, while highway miles are not nearly as rough.

So, mileage is a very important part of buying a car, you just have to look at it in a different light to make sure you are getting the best vehicle for your money.
