Women in the Automotive Industry

When most people think of the car-buying experience, they imagine a car salesMAN… not a woman! In fact, the automotive industry is dominated by men from top to bottom in car design, manufacturing, and sales. Women make up less than 22% of automobile dealers and only 7% of automotive repair and maintenance employees.

Luckily, we have several strong women who are breaking barriers! In January 2014, Mary Barra was named GM’s CEO (and the world’s first woman CEO in the car industry)! And then there’s racing celebrity Danica Patrick, who has forged a path for women in a completely different side of the industry.

Times are changing, and I’m happy to be along for the ride!

Ladies, what do you think about these statistics? Do you aspire to work for a car company? Have you ever been helped by a woman at a car dealership? If so, what was your experience? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
