1. Our car insurance costs less.
Argue all you want, the experts agree, and we just cost less by our very nature. Not that I need any more evidence, but I’ll go on…
2. Motherly instincts.
We want to protect those around us, even if it means getting to our destination five minutes later. Plus, when I see someone with a car seat in the back, I just assume they are on the way home from the hospital with their two-day old newborn. Talk about the scariest drive of your life.
3. We are natural multi-taskers.
Just like I can make dinner, switch a load of laundry and have a real conversation all while holding 20-pound baby, I can drive while noticing the drivers around me, the yellow light ahead and the pedestrian who just lost control of his dog and is likely to run into traffic. There are males in my life (who will not be named to avoid a heated discussion this evening) who hear something on 810 Radio about say, Twins baseball, and forget that yellow means a red light might be in their future. Or who get into a great conversation with their beautiful wife and forget that they are driving a car.
4. Women are more observant.
This study says so. But really, for a gender that fails to notice the pile of clean laundry begging to be put away that has been stacked on their pillow, I can’t imagine they would suddenly notice the hazards of routine driving. *Note: In fairness to the hubs, he folds more laundry than me. This says nothing, though, about his observant nature when driving.
5. Fewer speeding tickets, more seatbelt use.
Women engage in less risky behavior when driving. I have zero speeding tickets and not because I got out of them with tears, thank you very much. I am more likely to sit at work and read studies about the dangers of texting and driving, so I do it less. Sadly, times might be changing due to studies that show women are doing things like applying makeup while driving. Come on, ladies! You’re ruining our reputation.
