Thanks to my dog’s impulsive push to freedom yesterday morning, he’s become a local celebrity! Check out Mac the dog’s adventure and then tell us, what creative measures have YOU taken to bring back a lost pet?
So here’s Mac’s story: Yesterday we were taking him out for his morning potty break when he slipped out of his collar and bolted down the street. And despite our driving around for nearly an hour calling his name, we both had to go to work Mac-less.
I frantically posted on websites, including Craigslist, that our little furbaby was missing. Within 30 minutes of posting, I started getting calls and emails telling me that Fox4 News had my dog. I looked on their Facebook page through tears of relief and saw our little runner.
It seems a news station employee found him in the middle of an intersection and called him into her car. While at the TV studio he was given toys, bacon and helped himself to a running tour of the studio. We were quickly reunited, and Mac returned to his kennel after a strong talking to. His adventure wasn’t unnoticed, however, and he’ll be featured on the Fox 4 morning news show today!
Lauren has already written in the past about How to Safely Transport Your Pets and How to Keep your Pets Safe on the Road. Today I bring you “How to Keep your Pet Safe When They Run Away Into Rush Hour Traffic.”
1. Search the neighborhood. Ask the people you see mowing their lawn or walking their own dog to keep a look out. Be sure to leave contact information.
2. Immediately post on social media and pet sites including: Craiglist, KC Pet-Connect and Lost Dog Registry. Check these same sites for the found ads everyday.
3. Call vets, emergency vets and animal shelters in the area to alert them of your lost pet.
4. Report to your microchip company — provided you had the forethought to get a microchip. (You can get these from most vet’s offices.)
5. Make posters, including a picture of your pet, to place on posts, trees and in your neighbors’ mailboxes.
6. Visit the pound everyday to look for your furry friend. File a missing pet report while you are there.
7. Pray that your pet is picked up by a kind animal-lover.
We’re happy to have our Mac safe and sound. And so grateful for the kindness of a fellow Kansas Citian who even had some extra turkey bacon on hand.
